My research focuses on the relationship between ekphrasis and realism in Victorian fiction. By examining the moments in fiction where the visual arts are presented with intense visuality and tension, I hope to explain how ekphrasis is important to Victorian authors as they negotiate the problem of realist representation and present their realist aesthetics. My research also interprets the significance of ekphrasis from the perspective of gender studies.
