I am a herbal practitioner and Fellow of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists and retired Senior Lecturer in Herbal Medicine and Integrated Healthcare at the University of Central Lancashire. A joint publication with my colleagues, on the history of western herbal medicine, reawakened my interest in history. I completed an MA by Research at the University of York on the publications of Dr John Skelton (1805-1880) who was a prominent Chartist and later a leading herbal practitioner. My continuing research aims to set John Skelton within mid-century healthcare and political thinking.
