My current research looks at the reception of Scottish writer, James Hogg (1770-1835), by the Victorians. This includes learning about the wider Victorian publishing industry, and the ways in which it was established after the cultural, social and economic shifts experienced by the publishing press throughout the Romantic era.
However, I have always been interested in the Victorian era, both through my literary research and as a broader historical interest. A general enthusiasm of Victorian literature led to my Masters thesis, which concerned James Hogg and his influence on the Bronte canon. The Brontes are one of my major research interests, not just as authors, but as a unique body of writers during a transitional period in history.
Alongside my continual research on the Brontes, I am also interested in other Victorian writers, such as Robert Louis Stevenson, Wilkie Collins, George Eliot, Christina Rossetti and Oscar Wilde, just to name a few.
