Research interests:
My scholarship addresses Victorian and Modernist literature, art, and culture using, primarily, methodologies found in the environmental humanities, eco-studies, decadence studies, queer/gender/sexuality studies, colonial studies, and posthumanism. I also work in the fields of occult and weird studies. I am currently engaged in the study of questions regarding animal/ity, vegetal ontology, and formulations of the communication methods of plants, including fungi. It is my contention that the representation of vegetal communication in literature and art of this period establishes a skepticism regarding anthropocentric and Eurocentric perspectives and foundational ontologies, and in the process formulates models of nonnormative intimacies and acts of desire.
