Research interests:
My research focuses on the relationship between crime and literature in nineteenth-century England.
My research interests include the depiction of crime in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century English literature; the role of the press in the stereotyping of criminal figures in literature and the extent to which this literary stereotype has influenced public perceptions of crime; eighteenth- and nineteenth-century popular literature, with a particular focus on penny dreadfuls; the role of illustrations in the reception of Victorian literature; and the cinematic representations of Victorian literature.
