I am mainly interested in the place of literature in the realm of social reform and political economy - with Carlyle as a focus. I am also working on Darwin's writing and the reception of his ideas across Europe. With literary form and aesthetics at the centre, I am concerned with the way that literary texts resonate with the experience of change throughout the nineteenth century.
