Research interests:
UK Temperance History - one of my main aims is to widen knowledge and scholarship of the cultural history of these movements, their material (particularly visual) cultures and the social impact they had on their members. Linked with this, I also research periodicals, their audiences and cultural influence. As well as academic writing, I am interested in public engagement and the intersection of past and present, hence I disseminate research in the public arena using presentations, exhibitions, and social and broadcast media and work with third sector organisations. Most recent publication 'Writing for Social Change in Temperance Periodicals: Conviction and Career' (Routledge, 2022). Most recent media appearance 'In Our Time' (Radio 4, February 2022).
